Dallas Area
The Dallas area is located in Dallas County which is locally referred to as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. As of 2007, the county had an estimated population of 2,366,511 and is now the ninth most populous county in the United States.
Its county seat is the City of Dallas, which is also the largest city in the county, the third-largest city in Texas, and the ninth-largest city in the United States. Dallas County is the most populous county within the metropolitan area and contains the largest of its principal cities.

Fort Worth Area
Tarrant County is located just west of Dallas county and had a population of 1,717,435 as of 2007. Its county seat is Fort Worth. Tarrant county is the second most populous county in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and contains its second and third largest principal cities. The county is named in honor of General Edward H. Tarrant.
Fort Worth is the largest city in Tarrant County. Its population in 2006 was measured at 653,320. Arlington is the second largest city in Tarrant County with a population of 367,197 in 2006. Arlington is the new home of the Dallas Cowboys who play in the billion-dollar structure known as Cowboy’s Stadium.
